The Miracle of Validation

“We need a miracle…”  How many times have you heard someone say that? How many times have you said it yourself?

In times of great challenge, we often look to something else or someone else who is smarter, stronger, or more powerful to rescue us. The truth of the matter is, WE have the intelligence, strength and power within ourselves to “be the miracle” that we – and others around us – are looking for.

With life today moving at warp speed, it’s common to get so caught up in our own issues that we easily overlook opportunities to make a real difference in someone else’s day.

The people we come in contact with during our daily interactions may have some really tough things going on in their lives, and might be praying for something to happen that is truly out of our control.

But more often than not, the “miracle” most people are needing is simply to be noticed, acknowledged, appreciated and validated – and to know that they matter in this world.

If we’re honest with ourselves, a big part of our time is spent with our heads in the past or in the future, rather than the present moment. What we end up doing is passing through that moment on the way to somewhere else. And in doing so, we totally miss the moment. We allow life to go rushing past us.

So today, why not take the time to be a little more present in our day-to-day interactions? It can be as simple as looking people in the eye as we pass by. We can put down our smart phones and tune in when someone is speaking to us. We can offer a smile, a hug or a high-five. And we can say thank you to the barista or doorman, or simply hold the door or the elevator for someone else.

It only takes a moment – and the awareness to “show up” in our day. By taking the time to be truly present, we can easily be the “miracle” that someone else is waiting for.
